Editorial Reviews
A collection of intricate, lush and layered songs, Mirror to the Sky marks a bold progression from one of the most innovative bands of all time.
This is a very important album for the band, says Steve Howe, Yes' longest serving member, master guitarist, and producer of Mirror to the Sky, the band's 23rd studio album. "We kept the continuity in the approach we established on The Quest, but we haven't repeated ourselves. That was the main thing. As Yes did in the seventies from one album to another, we're growing and moving forward. In later years, Yes often got going but then didn't do the next thing. This album is demonstrative of us growing, and building again."
For Yes, that "next thing" is a collection of high energy, intricate, lush and layered new studio songs for an album which adds to the band's much heralded legacy, while charting a path to exciting future times ahead.
Mirror to the Sky is available as a Limited Deluxe Electric Blue 2LP+2CD+Blu-Ray Artbook with poster, which features the album in pristine 5.1, as well as Dolby Atmos, a first for any Yes album. Also included on the Blu-Ray are high-resolution stereo & instrumental mixes. Cover art by Roger Dean.

Definitely the best YES album in decades. The title track is a stunning 14-minute masterpiece full of twists and turns and perfect use of an orchestra. Every single track is great, and it rocks more than any YES album since the 70's. Steve's playing and production is brilliant. Jay's drumming is like a young Alan White, really rocks. Billy knocks it out of the park with his bass.
Jon Davison's vocals are stellar, as are his compositional skills. Geoff Downes adds the perfect complementary keys, great Hammond and even some church organ.
Packaging is beautiful.
Now in my top 10 YES albums of all time.
Bravo YES

Nevertheless, this is a strong album like its predecessor “The Quest” was and “The Quest”, both versions of “Fly From Here” were. Howe is guiding the ship now with Drama era member Geoff Downes (who also played on the previously mentioned albums and was Howe’s partner in Asia). Without Alan White and Chris Squire, the band has managed to create a worthwhile album that contributes rather than detracts from their legacy. Still, one does have to question “when is Yes not Yes”?
This 2 CD and Blu-ray set presents the album in an oversized LP styled book. Each disc sits in the cardboard “well” attached by CD stoppers on the inside over. The Blu-ray is welcomed if one has an Atmos system (and kudos to them for including that rather than withholding it like lots of bands are doing. Bands that do this sell the Atmos rights to a streaming service so you have to subscribe to get it). Each mix included is from terrific to very good and is presented lossless.
The two CD format was unnecessary as both discs could have fit on a single CD but I can see why they did it-the supplementary disc isn’t seen as part of the album proper. Mastering is pretty good here for a modern release.
The songs range from very good to excellent with Howe and Downes making the decision to involve an orchestra for the recording. It’s a cool idea that enhances the material and makes this a different Yes album than the efforts by members of this line up.
While Imwould have liked to see Jon Anderson, Rick Wakeman and even Trevor Rabin welcomed back to the fold even as guests on this album (since they did a credible Yes with their line up especially given that Anderson is a founding member and Wakeman a member from the classic years plus Rabin from their popular 80’s incarnation), this is a strong album from Yes. I do keep hoping (on a side note) that the recordings that Anderson, Wakeman and Rabin started on will also get a release but, in the meantime, this is excellent new Yes music. whether one on team Howe/Downes or team Anderson/Wakeman/Rabin, the legacy of the band remains secure and thriving.
