Description:
Mark Linkous, the talented artist behind the indie rock band Sparklehorse, has a never-before-heard album titled ‘Bird Machine’ that is being released by ANTI- Records. This album, originally recorded in 2010 and mixed by Mark Hamilton, showcases Linkous’ unique musical style and serves as a testament to his artistry. Mark’s brother Matt emphasizes the importance of preserving and honoring his music, expressing gratitude for the beauty Mark brought to the world. Born in Arlington, Virginia on September 9, 1962, Linkous began his musical journey as a teenager. Described by Pitchfork as an artist who compelled listeners to appreciate the beauty found in darkness, Sparklehorse released several influential records throughout their career. These include acclaimed albums like ‘Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot’ and ‘Good Morning Spider’ in the 1990s, as well as ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ and ‘Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain’ in the early 2000s. Additionally, Linkous collaborated with artists such as Vic Chesnutt, Daniel Johnston, Tom Waits, Danger Mouse, and David Lynch, demonstrating his willingness to work with thought-provoking and creative individuals. While Linkous recorded in various studios and collaborated with different musicians and producers, he often worked in his home studio, Static King, where he would play and record everything himself. NPR Fresh Air’s Ken Tucker characterizes Linkous as a working-class artist with a poetic sensibility, drawn to fellow artists who worked in isolation. Sadly, Linkous battled drug addiction and depression throughout his life. Despite his untimely death, his music continues to be highly regarded and influential in the indie rock and alternative music scenes. Mark Linkous’ legacy lives on, and ‘Bird Machine’ serves as a testament to his talent and the enduring impact of his art.
