Description:
In early 2022, Black Country, New Road released their critically acclaimed album “Ants From Up There,” which reached #3 in the UK and #9 on the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart. This marked their second Top 5 UK album debut in just 12 months, following the A2IM Libera Award-nominated “For the first time.” The album garnered numerous 5-star reviews, featured on end-of-year lists worldwide, and was voted #1 by fans on r/indieheads, Rate Your Music, and #3 by Pitchfork readers.
Following the success of “Ants From Up There” and with a packed touring schedule for 2023, the now six-member band decided to create an entirely new set of material to perform. They played to growing audiences at festivals such as Primavera, Green Man, and Fuji Rock, honing and developing their new songs. The band also toured the US with black midi and headlined two shows at Bowery Ballroom in New York, the first of which sold out in under 5 minutes. Their US tour received coverage from Pitchfork, Stereogum, Paste, and more.
The new material received widespread support, with Rolling Stone UK describing their Green Man set as “unmissable” and the Guardian stating the band was “greeted by something close to rapture.” These performances also led to a New York Times profile, multiple glowing live reviews, and a nomination for Best Live Performer at the AIM Independent Music Awards last year.
